Prof. Mabel Magowe
Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Botswana
Mabel Magowe is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, and a Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Botswana. She holds a PhD in Nursing (Emory University in Atlanta Georgia, USA), where her dissertation focus was on development and testing of theory-based instruments on safer sex communication among young women in Botswana. She also holds an MSc in Midwifery (University of Illinois at Chicago, USA), a Bachelor of Nursing Education (University of Botswana) and diplomas in Nursing and Midwifery (Institute of Health Sciences, Botswana). Prof Magowe has practiced and taught nursing and midwifery in Botswana for 41 years). Her research and publications were in sexual and reproductive health for young people, workforce development and ICT use in health care. She is currently a research scientist in an RO1 study for “Improving Reproductive Health of Batswana Youth and their Families” funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, USA, based on R34 that tested HIV, STI, and pregnancy prevention program for adolescents and their parents, funded by NIH in 2011-2012. She is also a Co-PI for an R21 that tests a model for improving Pr EP uptake and retention among couples at MCH services in Botswana.
